Looking Back at 2021

It’s been a busy 2021 at TSNE! Here were some of our major projects for this year.

Group of Fiscal Sponsorship panelists

Asking How Fiscal Sponsorship Can Be Equitable
In May 2021, we released the result of our two-year Learning Lab project in a report created in partnership with the New York University Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools —  Reimagining Fiscal Sponsorship in Service of Equity.
The report contains two parts: four case studies on how fiscal sponsors are reimagining their services and delivery models to meet the needs of community groups that support marginalized communities, and recommendations for meeting the capacity building needs of these grassroots groups. Read our report and watch our panel of fiscal sponsors discuss how they are centering equity.

Executive Directors of Color in Boston

Pilot Cohort Learning Program to Support Executive Directors of Color
We have seen the importance of community-based organizations in our country’s response to COVID-19. In order to support the capacity building and leadership development needs of these nonprofits, TSNE partnered with the Barr Foundation, The Boston Foundation, the Hyams Foundation, and The Klarman Family Foundation to launch the pilot of a unique cohort-led learning program in January 2021. Meet the 22 leaders in the pilot.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusive, and Belonging Program for Consultants

Strengthening the Field of Nonprofit Consulting
In partnership with the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, we launched a new cohort learning program for nonprofit consultants to hone their skill and confidence in integrating a racial equity lens into their work with clients. The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging for Consultants program has already trained 2 cohorts, and we will open applications for the 2022 cohort soon.

Bishop Allen Drive

Supporting Nonprofit Spaces in the Greater Boston Area
Before, and during, this COVID pandemic, we are proud to support nonprofit spaces by providing affordable and professional property management services. TSNE owns and operates the NonProfit Center, and manages 6 properties in the Boston area including the offices of the Conservation Law Foundation, The Link in Kendall Square, the National Consumer Law Center, and the New England Board of Higher Education. In Cambridge, Massachusetts, we worked with the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority to renovate 99 Bishop Allen Drive for its long-time tenants. This $12 million project included new efficiency improvements, ADA-compliance upgrades, and needed repairs that had been delayed.
