Changes in Eligibility for Fiscal Sponsorship at TSNE

We’re excited to share that we have updated our eligibility criteria. We have expanded our staff capacity for our fiscally sponsored organizations and we’re interested in working with more mission-based organizations related to the criteria below:

Farming: In the past, we couldn’t fully support farming activities before insurance reasons. Now with more staff, we can take on more farming organizations. TSNE already fiscally sponsors many social justice organizations with ties to the farming community; therefore, we wanted to support farming at its core.

Performing Arts: We have also revised our decision on performing arts and are now accepting organizations who do this. The major concern that limited this before was that organizations would create brand new material to perform. Because of this there was a concern regarding copyright for any original work. Since this has been clarified in our recent changes for eligibility, we can now take on performing arts organizations. It should also be noted that it is possible that these types of organizations may also be required to take on additional insurance coverage at their own expense.

It is important for potential applicants to understand insurance limitations to understand what TSNE can and cannot fiscally sponsor. This is especially important as the need to fund more organizations through fiscal sponsorship continues to grow, even amid these insurance limitations.

These limitations pose a barrier to fiscal sponsorship that unfairly affects BIPOC communities, since organizations supporting those communities often experience more obstacles for funding. With more funding, TSNE would be able to serve organizations and communities. Insurance discussions happen during the intake and application process for fiscal sponsorship at TSNE.

Please note that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all for potential additional insurance. The purchase of additional insurance would happen during intake conversations, and potential clients would get a better idea of what a contract would look like for them if it seems like they are a good fit for fiscal sponsorship with TSNE.
