Our Strategy Framework

The Framework

The framework focuses TSNE internally on three priorities: strengthening our financial resilience; better aligning our programs, people, and services with mission, partner needs, and organizational capacity; and improving the data and systems we use to guide decisions and assess progress. 

This framework does not represent a change in TSNE’s purpose. It sharpens how we live that purpose: by strengthening nonprofit organizations directly and using what we learn through that work to help improve conditions across the sector.

Why this Matters Now

Nonprofits are navigating funding volatility, workforce strain, chronic underinvestment in organizational systems, and growing uncertainty across the social sector. These pressures are not experienced equally. BIPOC-led organizations and historically under-resourced nonprofits continue to face disproportionate barriers while too often receiving the fewest unrestricted resources and the least long-term support. 

At the same time, nonprofits need trusted partners who can help strengthen the infrastructure that makes mission work possible—including financial systems, operations, people practices, leadership, technology, governance, and space. 

That is the role TSNE is committed to playing—and the focus this framework sharpens.

Our Framework Commitments

• Strengthening Nonprofit Infrastructure: TSNE will strengthen the services, tools, and partnerships that help organizations build financial resilience, operational reliability, leadership effectiveness, and the capacity to sustain their missions over time. 
• Deepening Equity-Centered Practice: Capacity building cannot be one-size-fits-all, particularly in a sector where structural inequities shape access to funding, staffing, visibility, opportunity, and room to grow.TSNE will continue evolving our services and partnerships so they are responsive, accessible, and guided by partners’ self-determined goals. We will pay particular attention to BIPOC-led, BIPOC-serving, and under-resourced community-based organizations that have faced sustained underinvestment.We will also continue examining our own practices, assumptions, data, and decision-making so that our operations remain aligned with our values. 
• Connecting Services, Sustainability, and Advocacy: The challenges nonprofits face are not solely organizational. Many are shaped by public policy, funding practices, and sector-wide narratives about what organizations need to thrive.  TSNE will work at both the organizational and systems levels—supporting individual nonprofits while connecting what we learn through direct service to advocacy, thought leadership, and sector learning. 

  We will also strengthen connections across TSNE’s services so partners can more easily access the breadth of our expertise as their needs change. Better use of data, partner feedback, and outcome measurement will help us improve our services, make stronger decisions, and remain a reliable and responsive partner over time.

Our Theory of Change

Our theory of change connects the support TSNE provides with the organizational and community outcomes we seek. It gives us a clearer line between our programs, services, advocacy, and thought leadership; the changes our partners are working toward; and the broader vision of a just and equitable society. 

Like the strategy framework itself, our theory of change is intended to be practiced, revisited, and refined as we learn. 

What this Means for Our Partners 

For current clients and fiscally sponsored projects and organizations, this framework signals continuity alongside a commitment to clearer pathways and stronger coordination across TSNE. 

For nonprofit leaders, it clarifies how TSNE can provide connected support as an organization grows, stabilizes, navigates change, or strengthens its internal systems. 

For funders and sector partners, it reinforces the importance of investing in the systems, people, leadership, and space that make lasting community impact possible. 

Strategy will be meaningful only if it shapes how we make decisions and how partners experience TSNE. In the year ahead, we will share what we are learning, how this framework is informing our services and advocacy, and where we need to adapt.
